16 February 2024, Kuala Lumpur – TC Sunergy Sdn. Bhd. (TCS), a subsidiary of Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad (TCMH or the Group), is pleased to announce that its first Floating Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic (LSSPV) plant in Serendah, Selangor has successfully commenced operations in providing green, renewable energy on 5 January 2024.
TCS Floating LSSPV – Serendah is the result of the Group’s participation in the 20-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) project under the LSSPV Bidding Cycle 4 (LSS@MEnTARI) by the Energy Commission in 2020. This marks the Group’s first foray into the renewable energy (RE) sector.
The floating solar plant built on Sungai Rawang – Serendah Lake is expected to supply 1,043,114 MWh of green energy to Tenaga National Berhad under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This will contribute to a reduction of 610,221 tonnes of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) emissions to the atmosphere, equivalent to removing 132,656 units of cars from the road, or the planting of 29,058,175 trees.
In the effort to preserve the ecosystem of the lake and its surrounding environment, the floating solar plant only utilised up to 60% of the water surface for the installation of the Floating Photovoltaic System to preserve the existing biodiversity and water quality. The project complies with the guidelines of the Environmental Management Plans provided by Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and the Department of Environment (DOE).
TCS is a consortium established through Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn. Bhd. (TCMA), APM Shock Absorbers Sdn. Bhd., and TCIM Sdn. Bhd. (TCIM). TCS will undertake Operations & Maintenance (O&M) of the plant to ensure the licensed capacity, safety, reliability, availability and efficiency of the generating plant are maintained throughout the PPA period in accordance with prudent utility practices and in conformity with the conditions of the Energy Commission’s Public Generation License.
“TCS Floating LSSPV – Serendah is an important milestone signifying the Group’s first venture into the renewable and sustainable energy sector. TCMH Group is pleased to be able to play our part in conserving the environment for our future generations,” said Daniel Ho, Group Chief Executive Officer of TCMH.
