- Outstanding fuel efficiency proven in two-day return journey to Malacca from Kuala Lumpur with no refueling stops.
- All-New NISSAN KICKS e-POWER is now open for booking.
KUALA LUMPUR, 22 November 2024 – Members of the media comprising automotive journalists and key opinion leaders got behind the wheel of the All-New NISSAN KICKS e-POWER and put the stylish compact SUV through its paces in a two-day media drive event organised by Edaran Tan Chong Motor.
Since e-POWER was announced at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 in May, the anticipation of an all-new model powered by Nissan’s proprietary powertrain has been building to a crescendo. The e-POWER drive system is 100% electric motor-driven utilising a petrol engine to generate energy to charge its Lithium-ion battery pack and to power an electric motor to drive the wheels.
It offers instant torque and responsive performance just like an EV, but without the need to plug in and charge. Compared to an ICE-powered vehicle, the e-POWER system has 20% lower tailpipe emissions and running costs (average service interval cost of only RM365), it utilises regenerative braking to reclaim energy and even offers the convenience of single-pedal driving via the e-Pedal Step feature.
“We have been eager to invite members of the Malaysian media to finally put the All-New NISSAN KICKS crossover and its innovative e-POWER drive system to the test. This media drive from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca is the perfect showcase of what e-POWER is capable of and how electric performance can be enjoyed without range anxiety while proving to be extremely fun to drive on twisty B-roads,” said Khoo Cheng Pah, the Chief Executive Officer of Edaran Tan Chong Motor.
“Nissan e-POWER is gaining tremendous traction in key markets and is a gateway technology allowing more consumers to experience EV ownership. As of October 2024, the cumulative global production of e-POWER vehicles surpassed 1.5 million units and this number is set to increase with the forthcoming launch of the All-New NISSAN KICKS e-POWER in Malaysia,” Khoo revealed.
“Powered by Japanese innovation that has been thoroughly tested and reliable, the All-New NISSAN KICKS e-POWER is offered with a 5-year vehicle warranty and an additional 8-year warranty on its EV components, just like the all-electric Nissan LEAF. Hence, it is my pleasure to announce that ETCM is now receiving bookings for the All-New NISSAN KICKS e-POWER ,” enthused Khoo.
About the All-New NISSAN KICKS e-POWER
Conceived as a compact SUV catering to varying lifestyles, the All-New NISSAN KICKS e-POWER cuts a stylish yet sporty presence on the road with its signature V-Motion front grille in piano black finish and distinctive boomerang-shaped LED headlamps. Adding to the visual appeal of the Kicks e-POWER is a floating roof design with ‘hidden’ pillars, black wing mirrors with LED indicators and a trendy rear reflector trim connecting the sleek, contoured LED taillights.
The spacious cabin of All-New NISSAN KICKS e-POWER features a dual-tone dashboard (where applicable) which houses a 7-inch full-colour driver’s instrument display, a sporty D-shaped flat-bottom steering wheel with multi-function controls and an infotainment system with 8-inch touchscreen and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity. Comfy and fatigue-reducing Nissan Zero Gravity seats are also fitted as standard as is an automatic climate control system with easy-to-operate physical knobs.
The standout feature of the NISSAN KICKS e-POWER interior is its minimalist, EV-style centre console showcasing an electronic shift-by-wire drive selector alongside the push-start, drive mode and EV mode buttons, while an Intelligent Rear View Mirror displays an unobstructed, real-time view that underscores the KICKS high-tech credentials.
Powered by the award-winning second-generation e-POWER drive system with an output of 95kW (129PS) and 280Nm, the KICKS e-POWER is capable of achieving 0-100km/h in 9.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 180km/h. The accomplished performance of the Kicks e-POWER is complemented by an equally impressive fuel economy of 21.7km/L (NEDC cycle), giving it a cruising range of up to 900km from its 41-litre fuel tank.
As the KICKS e-POWER is driven solely by an electric motor that offers maximum torque from idle, the acceleration is immediate, exceedingly smooth and quiet, just like an EV. But unlike an EV which requires external charging, the energy requirements of the Kicks e-POWER are derived from a 1.2-litre petrol engine which recharges the system’s 2.06kWh Lithium-Ion battery pack and powers the electric motor directly via the inverter when required.
Aside from achieving a maximum score of 5 stars in ASEAN NCAP testing, the All-New NISSAN KICKS e-POWER also comes equipped with a suite of advanced safety features under Nissan Intelligent Mobility. Active drive assist functions available on the KICKS e-POWER include Intelligent Forward Collision Warning with Intelligent Emergency Braking, Intelligent Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
