Kuala Lumpur, 11th October 2023 – Tan Chong Group was awarded the Energy Transition Forerunner Enterprises at the Energy Box Second Solar Energy Storage Future Malaysia 2023 Forum, which was held at Aloft Hotel, Kuala Lumpur Sentral.
Organised by Energy Box, a leading vertical media company specialising in renewable energy including solar, wind, energy storage and green hydrogen, the Solar Energy Storage Future Malaysia Forum is built for both leading players and new start-ups across Malaysia. A total of 18 awards were presented to the recipient companies at the Forum.
As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, Tan Chong Group has been taking steps in diversifying its key businesses into renewable energy. Our journey towards renewable energy began in 2016 by securing two solar energy projects under the SEDA FiT Programme at APM’s factory in Pandamaran, Klang and TCMA’s factory in Serendah, Hulu Selangor, generating 1.5 MW of energy.
In 2021, a milestone was achieved when Tan Chong Group was awarded the Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic Phase 4 Project (LSSPV4) by the Energy Commission to generate a 20MW of green energy via its Floating Photovoltaic (FPV) plant at Bandar Serendah, Selangor by the end of 2023. Once completed, the solar plant will be able to supply green electricity to Tenaga Nasional Berhad under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), contributing to a reduction of 725,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions to the environment, or equivalent to reducing 158,000 units of cars on the roads.
Tan Chong Group will continue to pursue other renewable energy segments as part of its ESG efforts, contributing to the energy transition in Malaysia and the global markets.
